Born in Niigata, Japan in 1980 and raised in Osaka, Jun Makita withdrew from college and began self-directed painting. He has participated in GEISAI, organized by Takashi Murakami since its inception. In 2002 and 2003, he received the Katsuhiko Hibino Award, and later received the Keiichi Sokabe Award in 2005. In the same year his work was featured in a special issue of Brutus magazine titled "The Art that Takashi Murakami Bought." Jun Makita is now represented by Gallery Ascend.
