Frog Ink Kingdom: In The Moment

FROG INK KINGDOM: IN THE MOMENT

Curated by Yidi Art, Frog Ink Kingdom: In the Moment (蛙墨王國:在當下) unfolds as a temporary realm of ink, movement, and imagination by Hong Kong art pioneer Frog King (Kwok Mang Ho). From March 25 to April 15, 2026, The Shepherd—Yidi Art’s pop-up space on Shepherd Street in Tai Hang—transforms into a playful territory where spontaneity reigns and art exists fully in the present.

For decades, Frog King has cultivated a practice rooted in immediacy. His frog symbols, improvised gestures, and energetic brushstrokes form a visual language that celebrates intuition over control. Ink flows, characters emerge, and the moment becomes the medium. In this kingdom, creation is not fixed—it is alive, unfolding with each encounter.

Tai Hang offers a natural stage for this spirit. The neighborhood’s streets are layered with the textures of everyday Hong Kong: mechanics working in open garages, bakeries sending warm scents into the air, small eateries buzzing with conversation, and independent shops tucked between old buildings. It is a place where life moves organically, without pretense—much like Frog King’s art.

At The Shepherd, this dialogue between place and practice becomes tangible. The temporary nature of the pop-up space mirrors the artist’s philosophy of impermanence and presence, allowing the exhibition to exist as a momentary “kingdom” that appears, breathes, and evolves within the rhythm of the neighborhood.

During the exhibition period, visitors may also encounter other art events and exhibitions unfolding throughout Tai Hang. Wandering through the district becomes part of the experience—an open invitation to discover creativity not only inside the gallery, but across the streets that surround it.

In Frog Ink Kingdom: In the Moment, art is not distant or formal. It is immediate, playful, and unmistakably Hong Kong.
