Art Central 2025

25 - 30 Mar 2025

In the spirit of discovery and transformation, we present "Epiphany: A Journey Within" (豁然:開朗), an exhibition that intricately weaves together the profound themes of the Chinese literary classic "桃花源記" (Peach Blossom Spring). Written by the revered Tao Yuanming in 421 CE, this fable unveilsa chance encounter with an ethereal utopia, where the boundaries of reality dissolve, allowing for a harmonious existence that transcends the ordinary.

Kan Hung-Ju, a New York-based artist originally from Taiwan, invites us to engage with the essence of this narrative through his thoughtfully conceived works. Each piece reflects the moment captured in the phrase "豁然開朗," embodying the enlightenment that accompanies the discovery of a world where nature and humanity coexist in exquisite balance.

Kan’s artistry captures the beauty of nature, depicting serene landscapes such as tranquil gardens, lush forests, and vibrant meadows, often adorned with delicate floral motifs that symbolize renewal and interconnectedness. These settings create a harmonious backdrop that encourages viewers to reflect on their own journeys, the pursuit of happiness, and the complexities that shape the human experience. As we immerse ourselves in his creations, we are reminded of the various paths we traverse in life, from peaceful retreats to the bustling energy of urban life. This exhibition stands as a testament to the potential for awakening and the transformative power of art to illuminate our understanding of existence.

"Epiphany: A Journey Within" invites a critical examination of the interplay between idealism and reality, encouraging us to ponder what it means to attain true fulfillment in an often chaotic world. As we celebrate the depth and nuance of Kan's work, we embark on a shared exploration of harmony, peace, and the timeless quest for an ideal existence, echoing the enduring relevance of Tao Yuanming's vision in our contemporary context.
