Jakub Uksa
Exhibited Artist
Jakub Uksa, a Prague-based painter and graphic artist, emerged from the mid-1990s graffiti scene. He is heavily influenced by ancient and oriental cultures, shaping his work without initial sketches in an intuitive, freestyle manner. His canvases, initially precise with geometrical schemes, evolved to incorporate metallic shades, dimensional explorations, and a shift towards unexplored narratives. Uksa's compositions, seemingly engineered, integrate improvisations, mysteries, and personal mythologies encoded through colors and shapes. The Sequence Travel exhibition unveils his recent exploration, referencing Lapland and Indonesian journeys, cosmic events, and existential contemplations. Transitioning from graffiti to content-based painting, his work now emphasizes the subjective dimension and a shift from line to color as the primary storytelling element.
